Work Learn Program
The ImmunoT-EDI-BMB Work Learn Program provides opportunities for undergraduate students from equity-deserving populations.
These positions are open to disadvantaged populations, such as Indigenous, Black, People of Color, LGBTQ+, Women, to gain experience to aid their careers.
ImmunoT supports and subsidizes meaningful experience in immunology labs on and off campus for equity seeking groups, as part of UBC’s work learn program.
About the Program
The WorkLearn program is designed to provide undergraduate students with:
- Increased access to laboratory experience
- Training in how to conduct an experiment and interpret the results
- Opportunity to develop organizational and communication skills
- Diverse perspectives, professional experiences and career goals
- Opportunities to network with research in different career stages
- Connection to industry through tours
- Training in writing cover letters and job applications
As part of the program, students:
- Work an average of 5-8 hours per week in their assigned lab
- Perform small biochemical and molecular biology experiments
- Design experiments and engage in lab maintenance work
- Analyze results of experiments
- Maintain and regularly update a research lab notebook
